Oasis Awards Grant to Tamarin for Healthcare Data Privacy

Tamarin has integrated ROFL and Oasis TEEs to enable secure cross-border healthcare data analysis.

  • NSF-backed team brings private healthcare data analysis to crypto using ROFL and Oasis TEEs
  • Solution validates complex queries off-chain, significantly reducing costs and enhancing privacy
  • Platform enables compliant healthcare data sharing while maintaining complete privacy

The Oasis Foundation has awarded a grant to Tamarin Health to integrate ROFL for secure healthcare data collaboration into their privacy-preserving protocol, Nectar. By processing queries within Oasis TEEs, Nectar enables healthcare institutions to analyze sensitive data without compromising privacy or regulatory compliance. This integration will reshape how healthcare organizations can share data by eliminating traditional silos while still maintaining complete control over important information.

The grant supports Tamarin's development of a privacy-preserving query system that will leverage ROFL's off-chain computation capabilities. Using the Nectar Protocol, healthcare organizations will be able to validate and process complex queries within TEEs before running resource-intensive MPC operations. Doing so will significantly reduce costs while ensuring that sensitive data never leaves its origin. The protocol's end-to-end encryption and granular access controls also ensure HIPAA and GDPR compliance which will enable institutions to collaborate on research that previously would have been blocked by data sovereignty and privacy requirements. This breakthrough will help organizations unlock valuable insights from global healthcare data that previously would have been stifled by privacy concerns.

Founded by Kat Kuzmeskas, MPH, Tamarin Health has established strong credibility in healthcare technology, receiving both Phase I and Phase II STTR grants from the National Science Foundation. The team combines healthcare leadership with cryptography expertise from Penn and Carnegie Mellon, including cryptography research professor Brett Falk, PhD, and assistant professor Riad Wahby, PhD. Their solution to breaking down healthcare data silos through privacy-preserving technology has already attracted partners, including multiple global pharmaceutical companies, registries, and two of the top four consulting companies
