Oasis Foundation Awards Grant to Diode to Bring Zero-Trust Networking to Sapphire

Diode will integrate confidential smart contracts on Sapphire to protect access controls and routing data.

  • This will expand Sapphire’s use cases into Web3 communication and identity
  • Strengthen device onboarding and smart contract permissions with encrypted logic
  • Support decentralized messaging, p2p tunnels, and onchain proxy services

The Oasis Foundation is pleased to announce a grant to Diode, the only open and permissionless Zero Trust Network in Web3, to integrate confidential smart contracts on Sapphire into its communications stack. This collaboration will bring privacy-preserving computation to one of the most promising decentralized network architectures, expanding Sapphire’s reach into secure messaging, tunneling, and device access.

With this grant, Diode will enhance its Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) model by leveraging Sapphire to encrypt key onchain logic used in device onboarding and access permissions. This integration protects sensitive metadata and prevents inference attacks, especially during the critical “perimeter bootstrapping” phase, where trust relationships are formed. The result is a more secure, censorship-resistant foundation for dApps and communications protocols.

Founded by CEO Hans Rempel and CTO Dominic Letz, Diode combines deep experience in privacy infrastructure and blockchain. The team also developed a decentralized messaging app, Diode CollabTM, to showcase Diode’s encrypted network and onchain access controls, eliminating reliance on centralized infrastructure.

Diode currently supports its own EVM Layer 1 and Moonbeam, and with this grant, Sapphire will now integrate into its open-source network node, CLI, and application stack. Their roadmap includes enabling new user onboarding on Sapphire and enabling their current user base to leverage Oasis’ privacy-focused infrastructure.
